Bytloop Mail vs Loops: honest comparison for developer teams vs solo marketers

Feature-by-feature comparison between Bytloop Mail and Loops — pricing model, developer story, and where each tool fits. Last updated September 2026.

Last updated September 2026.

TL;DR#

Loops is a polished modern marketing-automation product with a beautiful UI and thoughtful defaults for lifecycle emails. It is priced per contact (subscribed users on your list), which is a great fit for newsletter and product-lifecycle work and a poor fit for high-volume transactional sending. Bytloop is priced per send with a first-class transactional API, and includes a shared inbox in the same product. Different shapes for different jobs.

Who this comparison is for#

You have probably seen Loops mentioned on Twitter/X as "the modern Mailchimp alternative." That reputation is deserved. If you are:

  • A solo marketer or founder sending newsletters and lifecycle emails to a small-to-mid list.
  • A product team with engineers who also send a lot of transactional email (password resets, receipts, notifications).
  • A team weighing "which one do we buy first?" when you need both broadcasts and transactional sending.

...this page is for you.

What Loops does well#

Loops has real strengths that are worth being clear about.

  • Best-in-class marketing automation UI. Their loop builder for lifecycle sequences is genuinely nicer than most competitors'. If you spend all day building drip sequences, you will feel it.
  • Beautiful defaults. Loops' template editor produces good-looking emails without much effort. This matters more than developers usually admit.
  • Focused product. Loops is opinionated. It does one shape of work well — subscriber-centric lifecycle and broadcast email — and does not try to be everything.
  • Modern brand and audience. Loops has strong pull with founders and indie hackers, and its community around lifecycle-email content is active.
  • Transactional API available for teams that want to send both broadcast and transactional through the same platform.

Where Loops falls short for teams that send a lot of transactional email#

The design choices that make Loops great for marketers become friction for developer-heavy workflows.

  • Per-contact pricing punishes high-transactional volume. Loops charges by subscribed contacts on your list. If you have 100k users and send each one a monthly receipt (100k sends but 100k contacts), Loops' contact-based tier stacks up quickly. Per-send pricing (what Bytloop uses) matches transactional workloads better.
  • No shared inbox. Replies to your sends do not have a triage UI in Loops. You buy a help-desk tool separately.
  • Paid pricing is contact-sales. Loops' paid tiers are quoted based on contact count and are not fully public, which makes procurement estimation harder for buyers who want to model annual cost before a conversation.
  • Developer surface is smaller. Loops has an API, but the developer experience — explorer, SDKs, docs depth — is not the product's center of gravity.

Feature-by-feature#

Pricing model#

This is the single largest difference, so we lead with it.

Loops charges per subscribed contact. If your list grows, your bill grows, regardless of how much you actually send. Great for lifecycle marketers with a stable subscriber base and small transactional needs.

Bytloop charges per email sent. If you have 500k users but only send each one two emails a month, you pay for 1M sends, not 500k contacts. Bad for pure newsletter shops with a large subscriber base and occasional sending. Good for product teams whose sending volume correlates with active-user behavior.

Neither model is objectively right. They match different revenue patterns.

Transactional email API#

Both have one. Loops' is functional and lets you send templated mail programmatically. Bytloop's API is closer to the surface of Resend or Postmark — full REST with idempotency, batch sends, HMAC-signed webhooks, generated TypeScript types from an OpenAPI spec, and an interactive Scalar explorer inside the dashboard. If your engineers will touch the email platform daily, this depth compounds.

Marketing automation UI#

Loops wins this row. Their loop-builder for triggered sequences is excellent, and their template editor produces good-looking mail without much effort. Bytloop's drag-and-drop template builder and broadcast composer are competitive, but Loops' specific area of investment is worth acknowledging honestly.

Shared inbox / team collaboration#

Loops: not a product. Bytloop: first-class. Same story as our other comparisons — the shared inbox is a real product in Bytloop with conversation assignment, notes, SLA timers, and shared drafts. Loops users who need to answer replies typically pair Loops with Front or Help Scout.

Deliverability infrastructure#

Both platforms sit on modern deliverability infrastructure with auto-managed DKIM, SPF alignment, and DMARC guidance. Both suppress opted-out and bounced addresses automatically. On raw deliverability outcomes for well-warmed shared IP infra, the two are comparable at typical volumes.

Analytics & reporting#

Loops' analytics are lifecycle-focused: conversion through sequences, per-touchpoint engagement, and audience growth over time. Bytloop's analytics are event-focused: delivered, opened, clicked, bounced, complained, and (uniquely) inbound conversation volume correlated with outbound sends.

If your primary metric is "did this lifecycle sequence convert?", Loops frames the question better out of the box. If your metric is "how many password resets bounced yesterday and why?", Bytloop's view fits better.

Developer experience#

Bytloop leans hard into DX: MDX documentation, interactive Scalar API explorer inside the dashboard, TypeScript SDKs with generated types, HMAC-signed webhooks with replay from the console. Loops has an API and docs; the developer surface is not the product's main investment.

Pricing at scale#

Honest apples-to-apples pricing is hard here because Loops' paid tiers are quoted per contact. Below is Bytloop pricing for three team shapes; for Loops, we sketch the shape of the conversation you would have with their sales team.

Team shapeBytloopLoops
5-user product team, 5k contacts, 20k sends/mo$19 (Starter)Free tier likely covers contacts; sends exceed the 4k free-tier cap → paid tier begins
10-user product team, 50k contacts, 100k sends/mo$79 (Growth)Contact-sales pricing — priced on 50k contacts, not on 100k sends
25-user product team, 500k contacts, 1M sends/mo$199 (Scale)Contact-sales pricing — priced on 500k contacts, which pushes into the higher enterprise range

If your list is small and stable but your sending volume grows with app usage, Bytloop's per-send model saves money as you scale. If your list is large and your sending volume per contact is small, Loops' per-contact model can be competitive.

Migration considerations#

  • Domain verification — Bytloop generates DKIM, SPF, and return-path records; publish them at your DNS host.
  • Contact import — export CSV from Loops, import into Bytloop audiences. Suppression flags are preserved.
  • Templates — Loops templates use their own editor format; Bytloop accepts MJML and HTML. Some rebuild effort is unavoidable.
  • Sequences — Loops loops (triggered sequences) do not translate directly to Bytloop campaigns without design work. If sequences are the core of your work, plan a manual rebuild.

When to pick Loops instead#

Honestly:

  • You are a solo marketer or small marketing team whose primary work is broadcasts and lifecycle sequences.
  • You love the loop-builder UX enough to make it your default tool. This is a legitimate reason; product love is a real thing.
  • Your subscriber count is small and stable while your sending volume per subscriber stays low. Per-contact pricing works in your favor.

When Bytloop Mail is the better fit#

  • You have engineers who send transactional email as part of the app, and you also want a shared inbox for replies.
  • Your sending volume grows with active users rather than with subscriber count.
  • You want a serious developer surface — REST API, webhooks, OpenAPI-generated SDKs, interactive explorer.
  • You want predictable, public pricing without a sales call.

Try it yourself#

If you are evaluating both:

  • Both offer a free tier — sign up for a Bytloop account here and put a realistic month of your sending volume through it.
  • Migration help — if you are moving from Loops, email hello@bytloop.com. We will help import contacts, port suppressions, and stub out template equivalents.

Prices verified September 2026 from each vendor's public pricing page. Loops' paid tiers are contact-sales; the descriptions above reflect their public pricing page as of that date. If you notice an outdated data point, email hello@bytloop.com — we update these pages quarterly.
